Welcome to the SDRS calendar of rose care! This is where you
can get Dr. Dick Streeper's month-to-month instructions for
growing roses in San Diego.
As you can see, there are buttons
for each month along the left. They
aren't active on this page, but
in the calendar they allow you to
select the month you're interested
in.
The large buttons labelled "Planting,"
"Pruning," etc. take you
to basic "how-to" articles
from past issues of Rose Ramblings.
The calendar offers two methods
of care: "Traditional"
and "Integrated Pest Management"
(IPM). "Traditional" refers
to methods of rose care practiced
by most home rose growers, including
the same commercial pesticides,
fungicides, and inorganic fertilizers
that professional rose growers have
used for more than 50 years. IPM
involves using many "alternative"
(and presumably safer) methods,
including rinsing pests from the
plants, companion planting to repell
or attract insects, "natural"
sprays, etc.
